One landscape at a time

Alistair Dermer

Holding a Bachelor of Applied Science in Ecotourism and Protected Area Management, I started my career as a field biologist. My thinking has evolved towards a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of ecological and social systems, emphasizing the importance of human rights and the power of working directly with people.

As a father, I focus on supporting my children to be as resilient to change as possible, a value that informs my broader work. My extensive practical experience across Australia, from managing bird observatories to Antarctic & sub-Antarctic operations, establishing and managing multiple large conservation reserves, is now rooted in a ‘cultural landscape health’ perspective that emphasises the importance of good governance rooted in traditional practices.

I have supported the development of many practical operational & communication tools that have empowered dozens of Indigenous communities, and for 13 years, I was the founding director and manager of the highly successful international social enterprise, Conservation Management Pty Ltd. I am a published author, award-winning nature photographer, and designer and builder of passive solar homes and landscapes, with a passion for large stone placement. I advocate for a “healthier planet, one landscape at a time” with confident communication and deep passion, always striving to do things the right way, guided by a deep energetic and spiritual connection to the earth.

I have now established a family business that supports others to make their landscapes healthier, from backyards to entire Indigenous Nations.
